Hur mänskligheten utvecklas i en föränderlig värld

Tekniken följer oss från ögonblicket vi föds till ögonblicket vi dör. Historien om oss kan inte berättas utan att vi berättar historien om tekniken, utan att förstå hur vi både formar den efter våra ständigt föränderliga syften och hur tekniken samtidigt formar våra egna behov och begär.

I den här antologin beskriver världsledande historiker, akademiker och skribenter teknikens påverkan på industri och ekonomi, krigföring och spioneri, kultur och kommunikation, och funderar över hur relationen mellan människan och tekniken kommer att fortsätta utvecklas i framtiden.

Antologin samlar texter utifrån de anföranden som planerades för Engelsbergsseminariet 2020, som ställdes in på grund av pandemin, och utkommer i februari 2023. En del av texterna har också publicerats på Engelsberg Ideas, stiftelsens digitala plattform.

Clive Aslet: How Arcadia was won and lost and found again

Journalist och författare

Clive Aslet är en prisbelönad skribent och journalist som publicerat fler än tjugo böcker. Hans senaste bok, The Story of the Country House, är ett destillat av fyra decenniers forskning på ämnet. Under sin långa tid på Country Life var han bland annat redaktör under tretton år. Som författaren bakom The Edwardian Country House, The American Country House, Landmarks of Britain och Villages of Britain, är han en auktoritet när det kommer till brittisk landsbygd, historia och arkitektur och livet under sekelskiftet 1900, på båda sidor av Atlanten. Han blev nyligen ordförande för Lutyens Trust. 2019 grundade Clive Triglyph Books tillsammans med fotografen Dylan Thomas. Som livslång förespråkare för klassicismen hjälpte han till att etablera Ax:son Johnson Centre for the Study of Classical Architecture i Cambridge 2021.

Hew Strachan, FBA, FRSE, har innehaft Wardlaw-professuren i internationella relationer vid University of St Andrews sen 2015. Han är hedersledamot vid Corpus Christi College i Cambridge och emeritus-ledamot vid All Souls College i Oxford, där han innehade Chichele-professuren i krigshistoria från 2002 till 2015. Han har bland annat skrivit böckerna The First World War, första delen i en trilogi; Clausewitz’s On War: A Biography och The Direction of War: Contemporary Strategy in Historical Perspective.

Alexander Lee är forskare vid University of Warwick med inriktning på den italienska renässansens kulturhistoria och politiska historia.
